hi all, i know i ask some pretty stupid questions at times but heres my latest one!

just rubing mud off the little fella and found he appears to have only one bollock!!!! i have had him laid on his back and checked and checked but there is defo only one!! is this normal for a dog of this age to have not dropped his other one yet or does he just simply not have two??

am goin to be pretty upset if he's only got one nut but i dont spose itl stop him doing anythng will it?? i dont know what effect this has on a dog,or what i can do about it?? im hoping the other one will appear but i just cant feel anything there!!! would it be worth contacting the breeder and telling them??

oh and as for an update he's as quiet as a mouse now (i let him sleep in bed with me like someone suggested lol) he only stands at 18 1/2 tts but his appetite is growing now so hopefully he'l bang the weight on and gain some height

Alrite mate ;)

No such thing as a daft question imho :) I wouldn't worry to much about his balls, Nreo's have just dropped this week and they are tiny considering his size, the other one may descend later, if it ain't done so by 12 month it might be worth getting a vet check done.

Even if he has one ball it won't stop him hunting or anything else :yey: if ya get my drift :lol1: if im ever stuck for health advice I always pm SKYCAT on THL, she is very knowledgeable regarding dogs health :Good: and always replies to any quieries, lovely woman and a real gift her advice is as well.

Regarding sleeping with your saluki, we had Nero in our room (and in the bed :$ ) right up to the other day, as I had not finished my kennels until last weekend, well monday to be presice. I thought we would have hell on earth moving them outside, but they went out monday and we have not had so much as a murmer out of either dog, they still come in the house now and again (mainly cos I miss having them under my feet). I was very suprised by there reaction to being kenneled, but now think it is down to the bond we have and that he knows Im not far away. I was not prepared to use shock collars or buckets of water to 'force settle them' as this approach may work with most dogs but imho a saluki would withdraw from its owner and become a nightmare if treated like that, much better to build the bond and make the dog want to please you and that will only happen when they trust you 100%. A lort of people are under the illusions saluki are difficult, they aren't they are just intelligent and crave consistent handling. they are also very perceptive of human moods imo, once they trust you sky the limit.

Our dog motor is in for an MOT this weekend, hopefully it will pass and I'll be able to take up your kind offer of a look out next week if it still stands?

Have you tried to get him to stand and then feel for the second testicle, it should be easier to feel when he is stood rather than lay down? If you can feel it you can sometimes massage it down into the scrotum, dont do this in public!! If you want to breed from him it could be an issue, certainly he won't win in a showring whilst unbalanced otherwise it shouldnt casue problems until he gets really "old" when it can turn malignant but as Richard has said he is still young and it can still descend naturally

It has been said before, dogs do not catch game with their balls nor do their balls or absence of 1 have real impact on their human masters so it is of minor importance.

On the health front, one can find both veterinary opinions, remove vs not remove. I go along with the "not remove". If an internal testicle gives a problem later on we will deal with it.

I think all your messing must have frightened him into making it drop, so leave his lower bits alone now and concentrate on his head, by the sounds of your posts tho he has you wrapped around his front paw already and is training you well!!

Seriously, you may find that it goes back upwards again, you shouldnt worry it will decend as it already has once
