Hi All. I am new to the running dog game and I am very interested in the idea of a Saluki or two working as a team with my saker falcon to take jackrabbits. (truthfully I am interested in Lurchers as well, but I think that because salukis are bred to work under falcons they would probably be the best dog for the job.)

Glad to be here!

Great hunting y'all!

Hi Tom,

:welcome: to the forum!

Have you looked at Paul's website at all? He is flying falcons in tandem with Saluki's at hare. I have the dream of flying a BOP with Salukis in the future but life is simply too busy just now.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the welcome! I am glad to be here.

I took a look at Paul's site and I really like what he is doing. I especially like his idea of starting a Stud Book only for working Salukis. :notworthy:

There are some guys here in the states who work Salukis under falcons, and I am sure there are guys who are coursing them here without falcons as well. I would be interested in supporting some sort of club with a working dog only stud book here as well. (I hate show breeders with an incredible passion. they ruin everything they touch, be it a horse, or a dog, or whatever.) :Rifle:

There is a guy with imported working parents here in the states, and i am just heartbroken that I won't be set up for a dog until next moth as I am moving due to a work opportunity and so I am going to miss this litter as they are going fast. I am going to see when he is planning another breeding, but I bet it won't be for a while...

I was raised around working horses and working dogs and I cannot emphasize enough my feelings that working critters need to be preserved before they are all ruined by show folks. I remember the first time I rode a show trained horse and discovered that all his gaits were slowed down so much that I could walk fast and keep up with him when he was loping (picture the poor horse running so slow it looked to be in slow motion) How the heck a horse that is that slow is going to be any good for anything other than cruising around the ring is beyond me. My cow horse walked faster than that show horse loped... It made me sad, actually.

The long term plan is to run Salukis under my falcons while I am mounted on a good horse... :bounce: Can't wait to get it all in place!

Great hunting y'all

Thanks for the welcome!!

I think you are referring to the video made by Terrance in New Mexico, USA. I saw his video, and talked with him on a falconry forum. He is the guy that inspired me to try my hand at flying falcons at Jacks with Saluki. :bounce: There are a few other guys doing the same thing here as well.

Great hunting
Tom
