You might find some In the SPDBS newsletters here are a few Iraqi Salukis here. The Saluqi; Coursing Hound of the East would be as good a place any to look. Look for Iranian/kurdish types. |

Thank you!! The thing is the following: I have an iraqi partner in business, who was grateful for me, and offered me to give 2 salukis from northern-Iraq (Erbil area) as a gift! He is a kurdish business man, not a hound-knower, so all the paperwork would be mine to organize. I live in Hungary, EU. A lot of questions arise: if I decided to accept his gift, what do I need to do to get the pups to EU, Hungary? What kind of approval could they have here in FCI member country? thanks for your help. Accept the gift, you won't regret it!!! Lucky you!!! To get them to the EU they ned to be microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed. Then a blood sample has to be taken for a rabies antibody titer, most likely it will have to be sent to Europe, that's the way it had to be done when I imported from Syria. Then when the test arrives, if it is okay, the dogs have to wait in Iraq for, if I remember correctly, 4-6 months, and then they can be flown to the EU. Once in the EU, you can have them critiqued by show judges most likely appointed by the breed club/sighthound club/kennel club. If they approve, then you can get the Salukis registered. So, much the same way as when a paperless magyar, hortaya, chart polski or such is admitted to a registry. Check with the Hungarian KC for details. Good luck!! |

Would you mind to scan me in some pics from that book, the kurdish iraqi types? Is that book still available to buy? |

My scanner is not working or I would of sent you some photo's from various publications. Are far as I am aware "The Saluqi; Coursing Hound of the East" is still available as some members on here have purchased it fairly recently. It certainly comes highly recommended from me. As for the gift of the Salukis take them with out doubt!! Maybe others could help out with the logistics, costs etc. In return for having access to use of stud or a pup from a bitch? |

I did not quite understand this part. I wrote the partner that I want to accept his offer! But I let him re-think it again, and if he really takes the challange of organizing this freely, I won't say no ;) It looks like in best case I would have tha salukis in 10-12 months. I have plenty of time to get prepared, if they would eventually arrive :) Edited by maros, Aug 5 2009, 01:28 PM.

For now we are at the stage, that I had talked on phone with the iraqi partner this week, and he confirmed his aim to give me 2 salukis!!! :bounce: I try now to look after airfright possibilites, how much it would cost to fly them from Erbil to Budapest. Truck transport is also an option, but thats pretty rough, and takes 5 days, not the best way... But up to this point this has been all over my expectations! I never really thought seriously that he would keep his promise, so, hurray!!! :))) I am still very grateful for every advice or comment you all could give! Edited by maros, Aug 28 2009, 09:52 PM.
