Just one, oh boy...well, I think the Syrians are some of the best in the world, so Syrian lines I guess. More of them than I already have that is ;)

But really choosing just one is not my style, as I like as much genetic diversity as possible, so really all good desert bred hunting lines are what I search for.

regarding desert bred dogs......i have very limited knowledge but im guessing not all desert bred dogs are actually doing what they are ment to be?...so how do you find the really good desert bred ones...dogs that are doing the job?...imo surely you would have to get out to the middle east etc and find them?...

Valentino: I don't hunt them if that's what you mean, unfortunately, as it is banned here - also in Finland we mostly have dende forest where the forest hares have plennty of cover, so unlawful catches are relatively rare though they do occur on occasion.

Most desert dogs do hunt, as in general they are not kept for anything else. There are exceptions of course, such as Westernized breeders, but I'm not interested in aquiring such Salukis - I always look for desert Salukis that are used fotr hunting and are from hunting lines. This generally means hunters in villages, and for that you need good contacts - if you can make it there yourself as well, all the better, but even then you need the right contacts to find what you are looking for. I've imported 3 Salukis from Israel, 2 from Syria, 1 from Qatar, one from France but out of Bahraini imports, and I always use males from desert (or, as we mostly call them nowadays, COO - as in country of origin) lines.

So far I've bred 5 pure desert litters:

-My H-litter, where the sre was Israeli import Zafran Asli and the dam Israeli import Farha al-Faifa.

-My N-litter, where the sire was our Israeli import FIN L-C Ch CVM-08 Idan Atiq Rafiq and the dam Thuraya, imported from Qatar.

-My T-litter, sired by Syrian import Barak, whelped by Syrian import Basma.

-My S-litter, sired by Syrian import Khattaf, whelped by Qatari import Thuraya.

-My K-litter, sired by Syrian import Khattaf, whelped by Syrian import Basma.

The H-litter had severe health issues, so I have not continued those lines. I hope to continue the other lines if all goes well, and hope to be able to add more desert lines to my breeding in the future, if all goes well. Time will tell.

I have guests coming, but I'll put up pics later :)

In the meantime yu can see some of my dogs on my website: www.qashani.com

For me it has to be the dogs I saw in around Almaty Kazakhstan (also the dogs of neighboring Kyrgyzstan) , mainly because they are really strong, robust, compact dogs run over a huge variety terrain often horrendously rough ground on a range of quarry. So they fit with my type of hunting very well.

For real open ground coursing it would have to be Syrian/kurdish Salukis.

Thanks :)

I started writing to EVERYBODY who had any connection with the countries of origin and/or Salukis there, and then gradually started getting contacts to different places. These days with the internet it is much easier - when I started I didn't have a computer or access to the internet, and few leads to the source. Nowadays you can go online and track people down that way. Of course hunters in the villages don't have internet connections, so first you have to establish contact with someone who does and who has contacts of his own, and then follow that chain to the source.

I wrote LOTS of letters to LOTS of people for two years before I found my first solid contact, and over the years I have continued and one contact has led to another.
