Keep hearing how the kizzy x Pharoh salukis are the only strain left in the UK. Before the ban the club i ran with ( not the SGHC ) had around forty running salukis plus the old retired salukis, There were some that were show bred like the Baghdad ones but most were coursing bred, or coursing and show bred. The only kizzy x pharoh salukis I can remember running were Vance's before most of the members left the coursing section of the SGHC and started a new club where most were welcome.
What I would like to know is are there any other coursing strains out there? and how are they bred? as not every one like to be in the spot light and like to keep to them selves.

Saluki there are two guys in wales that live close to each other.
One owns Abberann Haman and indeed bred the Kaash dog that is advertised at stud he's the guy that they are talking about on thl that sold a couple of dogs out to South Africa that the Arab got hold of and is now shipping 5 of his pups out to Saudi.
The other guy bred Cockers dog and as Shaddow says has mainly Cruise stuff.
Good topic Saluqi I would love to know some of the other coursing lines are still going strong.

no these are some of the ones that ran in the club before the ban.
the one that have stood out were. IMO

Josephs Lily bred down from Sheikh Mohammed of Rivadh, lilys dam was one of the best to run in the UK, i wish i had seen her run in the flesh.
Najma al-murra a import and all her litter including mine sabti al- sabt.

Rose of moray and her sister , bred down from Durak

Howa the brother to one of Micaela's ( shaairah ) salukis was a very good coursing dog even tho he hardly ran.

knightellington salukis always did well.

And the two chubasco were just starting to run well before the ban.

Just before the ban there was a lot of very good fast salukis running, and you never new who would win and it would come down to luck a lot of the time and the fitness of the dogs.

I would of loved to of been involved with the club coursing, I tried to get in 11 years ago even offering ground to course on in Scottish borders where I keepered at the time but the women I spoke to was impossible!

How many are still coursing within a club via trips to Portugal?

Which club did you try and get in The part of the SGHC or the Saluki coursing club?
In our club you only needed an invite from a member and at the end of say a year all of the members would vote you in or out, you could even run your dog .
can only remember one person who after one or two meets wasn't invited back or became a member.
Yes some still go out to Portugal and Spain each year, i was going to go this year until my young dog hurt him self

It was the SGHC, wasn't aware of the other club then.

Your club sounds great unfortunately it just makes this ban even more frustrating.

Thats a real shame about your youngs dogs troubles, it would of been great have a report back on your experiences coursing out there. I know that Saluk on here travels over the border into Spain to course.

Do you know lines/breeding of the Dog M Stevens had? I think it was brother to Savys bitch.

I don't think they could register the dogs but I wonder if they where ever bred?

Just look at the price tag and availability.....

If you are in UK you can order a copy to borrow ( may only in the library itself as reference book )

Ask the librarian about inter library loans - they transfer the requested book from which ever holds a copy!
