Races are short, 480 meters or a sprint of 280 meters. To get a licence a dog has to have at least three trial runs certified bynjudges. One is a solo run, where the dog has to show that it has desire for the lure and runs well. The others are group trials, where the dog has to show that it can run with others on the track, without interfering with the other dogs' runs and that its focus stays on the lure despite the other dogs.

Sounds simple enough, but often the confined space of running in a tight group on a narrow track distracts the dogs from the primary objective, the lure. Oh, and they of course also have to demonstrate that they can start from the starting boxes.

Hurrah, I just got a call from the owners of Reaver (Qashani Tabia al-Badia, daughter of Syrian imports Barak and Basma) - she ran her first racing competition and won, despite running wide! This hot on the heels of winnig the Finnish Lure-Coursing Cup! We are so proud!!

Good stuff!! I can imagine some bad losers making the usual accusations of them being greyhoundXs because they are beating theirs. :clapping:

Yes, and I've heard the racing lines of Afghans have Saluki in them. Unless the subsequent generations are inbred, after a few generations the outcross blood is so dilute it has no bearing. I really fail to see why dog registries REFUSE to recognize what the livestock registries have known for a long, long time.

saluk: I may not have any of the German import lines, but I know of no Greyhound crosses among the Iranian lines in Germany, despite the claims of some troublemakers with their own agendas.
